Here’s the situation: You’ve finished moving into your new home. The furniture and wall art has been arranged to your liking. The electronics have been installed and tested. A fresh coat of paint has been applied and the entire house has been cleaned. Yes, your house seems to be looking great. But then you take one look at all the windows, focus on the generic blinds, and suddenly you’re crestfallen.

Like with so many home improvement projects, the thought of purchasing new window treatments can conjure feelings of endless searches through large stores and expensive hits to your wallet. But the experience doesn’t have to be that way, thanks to Budget Blinds of Rio Rancho.

In business since 2006, Budget Blinds of Rio Rancho offers a full spectrum of services for window coverings, blinds, shades, shutters, faux iron, and draperies and window tinting, with products from a dozen of the top manufacturers, including Hunter Douglas, Springs Window Fashions, Enlightened Style and Lafayette. And they only sell products that stand up to the UV indexes for New Mexico, Utah and Colorado.

If any of that seems overwhelming, rest assured that the Budget Blinds of Rio Rancho showroom, located at 3771 Southern Blvd. SE, just west of N.M. Highway 528, is a cozy environment with easy-to-view display stations dedicated to window treatments and a team of professionals ready to help at a moment’s notice.

Budget Blinds of Rio Rancho currently has four salespeople on staff, all with their own specialty in the window treatment industry. “Some are specialists with our generic products, and some are specialized in automation and motorization,” explains owner Jared Munoz, adding that automation involves setting up a schedule or parameter and does the response, while motorization refers to direct control of the unit, with both options able to be commanded through a network. “Some specialize in drapery and speak the fabric language. Some specialize in shutters. We always try to pair customers with the right specialist.”

A great example of this is the company’s push to make the purchasing of aging-in-place products easier. “Let’s say your parents want new window coverings for the window over their bathtub,” says Munoz. “We would send out a motorization specialist, because you don’t want them stepping into a tub to adjust a window covering by hand.”

Aside from Munoz, the rest of the Budget Blinds of Rio Rancho team includes Anthony, who handles automation and motorization; Dale, who specializes in shutters and general window coverings; Jeanine who handles general window coverings; and Heather — the newest member of the staff — in charge of draperies. Munoz’s mother JoAnn also works for the company, contacting clients who’ve had installations during the past week to make sure there are no issues with their products.

Budget Blinds of Rio Rancho provides a free in-home consultation, where a team member helps guide you toward what you’re looking for and gives you the information so that you can make an informed decision.

Customers can also rest easy knowing that whatever product they purchase will be installed by an experienced and reliable expert. “Our installers are employed by Budget Blinds, not sub-contractors,” notes Munoz. “That means customers receive the superb Budget Blinds treatment from beginning to end of the process.”

Indeed, customer satisfaction is a top priority for Munoz and his business partner Dale Sapp, as they would rather have an informed and happy customer than a rushed transaction. “We believe in no pressure sales,” says Sapp. “And we do believe in helping our customers become better informed customers by talking about the pros and cons of each product to help make the decision easier.”

A great majority of the products sold by Budget Blinds are covered by a 5-year, no-questions-asked warranty. “We typically see a peak on warranty claims on Jan. 2, Nov. 1, and July 5 — after a major holiday with loud noises,” explains Munoz. “This is because customers’ pets become excited and tear apart window coverings.”

Earlier this year, a Budget Blinds customer, who flew his son’s radio-controlled helicopter into five of his window coverings, brought in those window coverings to get replaced. And to his delight, all five of the window coverings were still covered under the company’s warranty.

Catering to residential, business and government clients, Budget Blinds of Rio Rancho serves much of New Mexico, from Valencia County in the south to Taos in the north, to Gallup in the west and Moriarty in the east. During this time of social distancing, the company’s showroom is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
