Albuquerque’s Poulin Design Center is New Mexico’s choice when it comes to quality home improvement. Whether it’s updating your kitchen to one you’ve always dreamed of, remodeling your bathroom, or going solar, owner Tom Poulin and his team are your local pros.

Founded 38 years ago, Poulin Design Center’s goal is to help realize the ideal home style you’ve always wanted. Tom has spent years listening carefully to what customers really want. When it comes down to it, Poulin’s team is right there with you. They understand how much timely, quality work means for homeowners and they’re excited to leverage their talent and skills for your next project.

When asked, Tom Poulin recalls how he managed to get to where he is now. “With hard work and perseverance, we built this company from scratch to becoming a mid-size business, providing opportunities for 65 New Mexicans. We’re passionate about creating opportunities for our employees who work at the Poulin Design Center.”

In this tradition, Poulin continues their legacy with a solid work ethic. The company’s core values are “family, integrity, humble confidence, innovation and reputation.”

Like many, Tom, just barely an out-of-state transplant, has called New Mexico his home for nearly all his life. “I can’t officially say I’m a ‘New Mexican’ since I moved here at one month old! I grew up in New Mexico and raised my family in this state. What better place is there to live — we have all four seasons, great outdoor recreation, great food…love those Monroe’s red enchiladas with calabacitas, rice and a sopaipilla. You can’t find that anywhere else in the country!”

Poulin Design Center garners enthusiastic reviews from customers like Renee Holmes, who says, “We are very happy with our kitchen remodel that was done by Poulin Design. The remodel included minor changes to footprint, new cabinets, granite and flooring. Our contact, Rande Broyles, was incredible to work with. While we had many ideas of our own, Rande’s expertise and suggestions resulted in the custom touches that make our kitchen wonderful. We highly recommend Poulin to our friends and family!”

With New Mexicans exploring what it means to live in COVID-19’s world, Tom looks to the future despite the present circumstance. “The demand for residential remodeling has been very high. After staying at home, our customers have made the decision to invest in their home rather than traveling this year.”

“As an essential business, we feel that it is our duty to remain open safely to provide home remodeling services to New Mexicans,” Tom continues. “There has never been a better time to remodel with financing rates at historic lows. Our proprietary finance companies are offering their lowest rates ever.”

With the seemingly endless change in public health risks, Tom and his team have put their minds to work, designing solutions for clients with gusto. “Some of the favorite projects right now are creating safe bathing environments. We also see a higher number of people choosing to age in their home, so walk-in tubs, and tub-to-shower conversions are popular.”

This mindset also includes technological solutions as well. “We have been ‘virtually remodeling’ for years! We do this by showing our clients a 3D virtual reality design of their remodel before we install it,” Tom explains. “Clients get the choice of an online or in-person design consultation. If they opt to come to the design center, we do limit the number of appointments at one time and make sure everything is disinfected before and after they arrive.”

They strive to remain grounded in practical safety for their customer’s sake as well. “In addition, we are offering an optional sanitizing service to be done after the remodel. Installation will be done at the home following all the OSHA and CDC guidelines. We are taking extra precautions to ensure the jobsite is sealed off from the rest of the home, it’s disinfected upon arrival and departure, and our employees are wearing masks,” Tom says.

“We see that this is a time that our community needs to come together,” he continues. “One way we are helping our community is by offering steep discounts on our services, especially since we know that some remodels cannot wait. We also give back to the community through our partnership with Johnny and Friends NM, and Albuquerque Isotopes. Most recently, we’ve partnered with the Isotopes to pay for one lucky winner’s electric bill each month of summer.”

Despite the current state of things, Tom’s customers remain convinced of the quality his business delivers regularly. Another client reports, “I am extremely happy with my Poulin kitchen and bathroom remodel. The design transformed the house, blowing away everyone who visits! The construction was impeccable. The punch list was resolved quickly with no fuss.”

Poulin Design Center continues fulfilling its promise to provide the top-notch experience customers deserve. When asked where New Mexico is going in the future, Tom soundly replies, “Residential remodeling services. As the housing stock ages, it creates many opportunities for maintaining and updating. With the low inventory of homes for sale, people are deciding to stay in their homes. We’re actually seeing a resurgence of home additions. Our solar division has seen tremendous growth and we expect it to continue as people see the benefits of going solar in a state that has over 310 days of sunshine per year!”
