Southwest Greens Puts the Kibosh on Yardwork Stress

In business since 2002, Southwest Greens specializes in the design and installation of beautiful synthetic lawns and putting greens for your home and business.

When Dan Monaghan wanted to transform his backyard into his own personal oasis, he called the company he knew would serve him best — Southwest Greens, a local turf company run by brothers Scott and Steve Forster. And Dan’s experience with the skilled crew went beyond his expectations. “It was great,” Dan says. “I would recommend them to anyone!”

With the help of Southwest Greens, Dan installed synthetic turf, a putting green, a shade shelter and more. “It’s all worked beautifully,” he says. “One of the best parts about working with Southwest Greens was the collaborative planning stage, where I explained some of the ideas I had and Scott suggested something that might be better and asked if I would consider it.”

Scott founded Southwest Greens in 2002, with Steve joining him eleven years later, and they are now a part of nearly 100 locations worldwide that are backed by Shaw Industries, one of the world’s largest carpet manufacturers. The Forsters, along with Southwest Greens’ expert staff, help design and install artificial lawns for residential and commercial use across all of New Mexico, El Paso and western Texas.

Southwest Greens has installed driving ranges, artificial grass for dogs, cushioning for playgrounds and more. Their handiwork and excellent products are found all throughout the city, from the bullpens of the Albuquerque Isotopes to Isleta Amphitheater. “We can put artificial turf darn near anywhere,” Scott says with a laugh.

No matter the nature of the current project, Southwest Greens takes the job seriously. “One of the slogans our company has is ‘Mastering the art of professional installation’ because one of the most important things with artificial turf, besides being a great product, is having really good installation,” Scott explains. “We’ve been doing this type of work for over 22 years and we don’t want an unhappy customer.”

Much of Southwest Greens’ business comes from referrals, with satisfied clients recommending them on social network sites such as Nextdoor and Yelp. The company has also gained clients from those who have worked with another company and were unhappy and heard about Southwest Greens’ stellar work. “We make sure that our jobs are perfect. We want to make sure we have a good name out there all the time,” Scott says.

With an A rating from the Better Business Bureau and more than 1,500 installations performed since its beginning, Southwest Greens’ eco-friendly artificial grass has set the industry standard for performance, aesthetics and durability. Those installations include synthetic grass and turf solutions for artificial lawns and pet turf, in addition to several types of golf greens and putting greens. The company also installs synthetic playgrounds, athletic and multi-purpose fields. “Our synthetic turf is designed to be extremely durable while simulating the look and feel of natural grass,” says Scott.

What maintenance is required for Southwest Greens synthetic turf products? Very little, say Steve and Scott. For golf greens, they recommend that you call the company for routine maintenance every 12 to 18 months, which includes rolling the green to ensure a smooth putt, and inspecting the areas around the cups to make any necessary adjustments. In the meantime, all you need to do is use a leaf blower to remove debris and leaves. For other turf applications, just use your leaf blower and garden hose periodically to clear off debris and clean the surface.

It’s no secret that synthetic grass lawns can get pretty hot during the summer. However, Southwest Green offers the HydroChill home evaporative cooling system, which allows homeowners to enjoy their lawn even on the hottest days. “As the synthetic lawn surface is heated by the sun, moisture stored in the HydroChill grass is released,” says Scott, explaining how the HydroChill system works. “Evaporating moisture removes the heat, leaving a cooler, more comfortable surface for you and your family. All it takes is one quick wet down with a garden hose and it will stay cool for several days. Of course, during the summer rainy season there is no need to wet the surface since it will self hydrate.”

During each step of the process — from design to installation — Southwest Greens ensures customer satisfaction. Working with local landscaping companies such as Heads Up Landscaping, Southwest Greens can be your one-stop shop for a complete transformation. Clients can choose from a variety of styles, ranging from traditional bluegrass and long-blade fescue to winter rye, short Bermuda and centipede.

With people looking for ways to reduce water usage but still maintain attractive and comfortable outdoor spaces, Southwest Greens has seen an increase in business. “We are busier than we’ve ever been because people see the benefits and attractiveness of it,” Scott explains. Quality control on job sites with experienced installers makes certain that each customer will come out happy. Trust satisfied customer Dan when he says, “Working with Southwest Greens was a very satisfactory experience!”

Southwest Greens offers free, in-home consultations. “We strive to be consummate professionals in all of our dealings with our customers,” says Scott. “Steve and I were both born and raised in New Mexico. We were brought up surrounded by many hard-working New Mexicans. That taught us to have a work ethic that is rivaled by few. We believe in making long-lasting professional relationships that are nurtured by our commitment to excellence.”
